From High Street brands, quirky shops and weekly markets

From browsing for big-name brands, to hunting for shabby-chic antiques, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate do retail therapy well.

The Isle's three resorts are home to all the well-loved High Street names. And some much more unusual outlets too. All over, in resorts and villages, you'll find independent and family-run stores, which pride themselves on unusual goods, attention to detail and personal service.

There are pockets of pure funkiness too. Margate Old Town is peppered with Rough Trade, Margate Bazaar, vintage shops, packed with the kind of nostalgia-inducing retro goodies that brighten the most style-conscious home. And dotted around Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and the villages, you find tempting boutiques, artists' and jewellers' studios, shops selling quality crafts and gifts, and stores full of antiques.

For mall-style shopping with all the big names head to Westwood Cross, tucked in between Margate and Ramsgate. Here stores and eateries should satisfy your fashion, food, household and gadgetry retail needs.

Quex Barn champions Thanet's rich array of local produce, combining a deli, butchers, fish stall and top restaurant. Each month the stalls of the Cliftonville Farmers' Market surround a bandstand with remarkable coastal views - head here to stock up on local bread, cheese, fruit, vegetables, wild game and fresh meat or visit the monthly Thanet Farmers Market for locally produced food and drink. Meanwhile Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate each have weekly markets - perfect for bargain hunting and soaking up local life.
